Orchard Lane

We had temperatures today in the low 70s (!) so we absolutely had to take advantage and go out walking somewhere! Autumn days like this are such a gift here on the (soon to be) Tundra. We gladly use them when offered!

After lunch we headed out to our favorite little orchard, just about 10 minutes away. We've been going there yearly since Ben and Will were little guys.

It's just a tiny orchard. No helicopter rides or expensive corn mazes or anything like that. Just a quiet little trail to walk, some goats and chickens,

and of course apples to taste-test. I brought along one of our apples and with the help of the staff there we pinned down the variety to.......Prairie Spy!!! Connell Red- Fireside was awfully close in the looks department, but too sweet to be our variety. Our apple matched up in looks, tartness and crispness to Prairie Spy. I am pleased to grow apples with such a cool name!

This simple little walk is a favorite of mine to take with the boys every year.

It is perfect for a lazy, sunny, impromptu kind of stroll,

and I'm sure it will be a favorite memory of mine years from now when my teeth are too false to eat apples and my knees too sore to take hikes. Carpe Diem!
