Some Views From Camp

Ben returned from camp last weekend exhausted but full of stories about shooting guns, archery, hiking, rock climbing, boating, wet sleeping bags, good food, hard work and fun with friends. It was a beautiful environment to be in for a week.




He earned several patches for activities completed at camp: Polar Bear swim, hiking, fire tower climb, shooting, horseback riding plus others. He also earned his first 2 merit badges as a boy scout: leather working and fishing.

The troop has their own cook whereas most groups go to a dinner hall where the food leaves them hungry. Art and Elroy cooked from scratch for each meal providing plenty of protein and vegetables and high calories. The boys are constantly on the move and working their bodies so it's all necessary. For instance, some of their dinners were spaghetti with a meat sauce and salad, pork loin with green beans, and steak and potatoes with salad. At lunch they got such things as tacos and hamburgers. Nary a chicken nugget or french toast stick in sight.



Steve and Ben went witht he troop to a protestant service on Sunday. Not sure the photos do justice to the chapel, but wow! talk about a beautiful service! Not easy to fall asleep during the sermon with these surroundings! I especially like the tree-branch crosses. Take that Baroque St. Agnes!!

Standing 100' tall and 180' over lake level, campers at the top are able to see Tomahawk in its entirety along with much of the surrounding countryside.

Ben also participated in Brownsea this year. In the Brownsea program, Tomahawk staff work together with unit leadership to advance first year campers to Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class ranks. Basic advancement skill sessions are offered daily for all three rank levels. Ben earned Tenderfoot and will receive his rank at an upcoming Boy Scout Court of Honor.
